Explaining eighth notes or quavers to small children can be a challenge. To play them with accuracy can be even more difficult. We developed a way of explaining and practice this rhythm that give trouble to many beginner music student of all ages.
When we learn about eighth notes we have the impression that is about going faster than a quarter note. If we understand it a bit better, we will know that we have to go doubling the speed of a quarter note. But we also have to be careful on how we play a couple of eighth notes (kitty) followed by a quarter note (cat) and not to leave a wider space between the second eighth note and the quarter note.
This is like the Sesame Street of the music education.
With our method we try to imprint the correct duration of every figure and at the same time explain the theory behind it with a friendly approach and, at the same time, developing children’s musicality.
